Yaron Meyer (b. 1991, Jerusalem) is a glass artist working between London, Israel, and the USA. He is inspired by the complexity of nature and human relations within and mediated by it, and his glass sculptures are a manifestation of this that challenges context, scale, colour and use.

Desertification juxtaposes a grouping of blown organic forms with meticulously sculpted realistic thorns, in a vivid palette of oranges and cobalt that mark a Pop Art departure from the earthy tones of the desert landscapes which inspired them.

The inspiration for this latest series was the extremes of heat and scarcity that the desert embodies, and how Meyer sees these as a metaphor for the challenges of access and opportunity facing artists in Israel and elsewhere. And yet, amidst the harshness, Meyer also notes parallels between the desert and the art world in their potential for immense beauty and inspiration: even in the absence of abundance, they become places where humans can glimpse infinity and indulge in boundless creativity and innovation.

Meyer completed his BFA at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, and has also studied at Dale Chihuly’s Pilchuck Glass School and at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He has created installations for public and private clients, and has exhibited widely in the USA, Israel, and Europe, including at the 2022 Venice Biennale. He will also present at the 2023 International Glass Biennale in Sofia. He received an excellence award while at the Pilchuck, and the Clore-Bezalel scholarship to study at the RCA.
